BASICS

CHARACTER NAME: Ayana Amamoto

CANON: The Caligula Effect: Overdose

AGE: Ayana is 27, but in the virtual reality (where she's pulled from and physically looks like) she appears 17.

BACKGROUND

HISTORY: Six years before entering Mobius, Ayana was a member of the Uzume Corps., an Underground Idol Group, studying under her friend Himari. At this point, she still had a fear of men, but it wasn't quite as severe. She became an idol in order to get over her fear because Himari said it'd be good for her, and Ayana wanted to follow her anywhere. She initially had good memories with Himari and even planned on making a big debut with the group, enjoying their songs and events.

However, at one event Koki Tadokoro appeared and brutally attacked Himari with a metal bat. Ayana was witness to this, but was too shocked and horrified to intervene. She watched Tadokoro beat Himari to an inch of her life before he was arrested.

It got even worse when Himari woke up to discover she had been blinded in the attack .This caused her to take her life out of distress.

This made Ayana's fear of men SO much worse, to the point where she could no longer interact with her father or brother properly. Out of consideration for her feelings, her brother married his girlfriend earlier than planned to move out, and her father moved into a separate apartment. He often sent her letters since he couldn't speak with her directly, but Ayana couldn't find it in herself to reply to them.

Ayana slowly started to get better through work with a therapist, and after several years she was able to get a license as a cosmetologist and was even able to leave her house for work. However, she would work and commute in women-only spaces to avoid any contact with men.

She eventually heard from a friend that her father had collapsed. Ayana had believed this to be her fault entirely, and eventually she encountered Mu.

When she arrived in Mobius, everyone appeared to be female to her. She lived a blissful life of ignorance like everyone else, but she felt that there was someone she needed to write back to. This served as the catalyst to her discovering the truth of Mobius and joining the Go-Home Club.

What impression does your character give when meeting someone for the first time? How does the first impression differ from your character’s true nature?

How does your character handle stress? What do they do in an emergency?

What are some of your character's regrets? How is your character impacted by them?

Ayana's biggest regret is not being able to help Himari when she was attacked. Instead of doing anything, Ayana just froze, letting her fear of both the situation and men overwhelm her. Ayana never wants to be helpless or powerless like that again. Her other biggest regret is the fact that her father, who selflessly supported her and often wrote her letters, had collapsed without ever receiving a reply from Ayana. It's this guilt that causes her to seek solace in Mobius and end up trapped there to begin with. But it's also this guilt that causes her to snap out of it and decide to leave.

What are your character’s ambitions/goals? Why are they important to your character?

By the end of her friendship arc, she resolves to actively start working on her fear of men and to be strong enough to protect herself and her friends. Her other regret is that she let her fear of men get so bad that she couldn't even face her own male family members. She wants to work on her fear so she can speak to her father in person again and say thank you to the man who selflessly supported her all these years. It's because of this desire that she's so determined on getting out of the virtual reality world in the first place and won't let anything or anyone get in her way. She WILL punch her way out of a situation.

What are your character’s fears? How do they hinder or challenge your character?

Ayana's biggest fear is men. She reacts with fear and, at times, outright violence when she meets a man, and this is unfortunately including her own teammates. She will (and has) screamed and punched them for being too close or friendly to her once she noticed them doing so.

That said, she IS capable of curbing those violence tendencies when she needs to and if her goals align with a man's. She might be meaner or more curt about it, and definitely isn't as friendly to men as she is to women, but she can do it, begrudgingly. Unfortunately her habit of being reactionary and mean to men often puts her in the very situations that prove her point--that men are brutish and quick to violence--even though she's the one forcing that in the first place.

INVENTORY: Her cellphone and her school bag, which has a notebook full of school notes and doodles of hearts or ideas of lyrics, but otherwise unremarkable.

POWERS

SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ayana has the ability to go into what's called "Catharsis Effect." Her appearance changes a little and she summons a weapon, a four-pronged disc that acts as a big stun gun. She's the tank of the group and fights using electricity or heavy melee attacks. She stuns and can heal.

NERFING: I think for nerfing she could still change into her Catharsis form, but her electrical attacks aren't strong enough nor last long enough to fully incapacitate anyone. That is, she can knock someone down, sure, but can't knock them out or kill.
